Welcome to A Bard in the Dark, an album of seemingly-unconventional pieces (in the intended context) that have served me well in being Dungeon Master for campaigns with a greater focus on close-to-home, dark moralities and just generally exploring more down-to-Earth, sapient-made evil.

Perfectly orchestral, synth-less music always has a home in D&D, but I had to wonder if there was something more I could do than just provide epic themes for confrontation, and typical tense tremolo dissonance for times when the party is wandering through a hostile territory in a cave. Either way, I knew the large orchestra route wouldn't do it for me this time.

Something about these themes is closer and less grand. Not everything a party does is going to warrant Two Steps from Hell music, I've found, and more intimate and exploring themes can be a breath of fresh air.

At least, I think so. That's what A Bard in the Dark tries to be. Whether or not it does that job is up to you. Enjoy!

The wonderful art of role-playing tabletop gaming deserves a whole lot of praise for sure, because I don't believe most who play these fully understand or appreciate how incredible games like Dungeons and Dragons can be both psychologically and sentimentally. Games that can build friendships and create real emotion, all in the collective shared memories of the table. That first natural 20. Even the first critical failure. All of it is to be treasured. As jaded as you may become, never lose the love of adventuring, and the spirit of the game.
